Ever realize how effin wrong all those nursery rhymes we used to say without thinking about them really are? Seriously... THREE men in a tub? That better be a freakin huge tub or three very small men. So I'm thinking of these men who for some reason want to be in a tub together and thought I would look up the origin of this well known ryhme that mother goose taught me before I could read. This is what I found
"The origin seems to be from an old English side-show attraction. The rhyme depicts the scurrilous behavior of audience members lacking self-control."
Ahhh... So good for the children to learn about lacking self-control before they have the urges to lack it, I get it now!

Another one I remember is Mary Mary Quite Contrary, this is what I found on that little "children's" poem
Mary Mary Quite Contrary featured a hidden reference to the Queen's (bloody mary) treatment of Protestants using instruments of torture
The 'silver bells' were thumbscrews which crushed the thumb between two hard surfaces by the tightening of a screw. The 'cockleshells' were believed to be instruments of torture which were attached to the genitals! The " Maids" or Maiden was the original guillotine
*cough cough* WHAT!!! I have known this song for 24 years and never would have thought of this. Mother Goose you are one creepy witch! What what what?
